Medicinal electrophoresis

Device for medicinal electrophoresis

Equipment for introducing medicinal substances using direct electrical current.

What medicinal electrophoresis is

  • Medicinal electrophoresis, also known as iontophoresis, combines the effect of direct electrical current with the introduction of a medicinal substance.
  • The medicine penetrates through the skin, mucous membranes or wound surface, while the electrical current acts as an active biological stimulus.
  • During electrophoresis, the substance may be deposited in the skin and gradually move into deeper tissues.

Possible advantages

  • introduction of small doses of medication;
  • local effect in the procedure area;
  • prolonged action due to skin depot formation;
  • potential reduction of some side effects associated with systemic administration.

Limitations

  • not all medicines are suitable for electrophoresis;
  • correct solvent, concentration, polarity and method are required;
  • the procedure must be performed only under specialist recommendation.
