Device for medicinal electrophoresis
Equipment for introducing medicinal substances using direct electrical current.
What medicinal electrophoresis is
- Medicinal electrophoresis, also known as iontophoresis, combines the effect of direct electrical current with the introduction of a medicinal substance.
- The medicine penetrates through the skin, mucous membranes or wound surface, while the electrical current acts as an active biological stimulus.
- During electrophoresis, the substance may be deposited in the skin and gradually move into deeper tissues.
Possible advantages
- introduction of small doses of medication;
- local effect in the procedure area;
- prolonged action due to skin depot formation;
- potential reduction of some side effects associated with systemic administration.
Limitations
- not all medicines are suitable for electrophoresis;
- correct solvent, concentration, polarity and method are required;
- the procedure must be performed only under specialist recommendation.
